Our first-rate laser system consists of a Verdi-pumped Mira 900 modelocked Ti:Sapphire master oscillator and a synchronously-pumped Mira OPO. This gives us access to wavelengths from 525-3000 nm with pulses ~120 fs.
The Mira creates ultrashort pulses using a nonlinear technique called Kerr Lens Modelocking (KLM). After tuning to the proper wavelength, these pulses are used to excite and investigate vibration dynamics in condensed matter systems
The use of an Optical Parametric Oscillator yields non-critically phase matched signal and idler beams at wavelengths ranging from 525-3000 nm upon pumping with the Ti:Sapphire oscillator. This wide range of wavelengths allows us to study anything from semiconductors, MQW and quantum dot structures, to thermoelectric materials.
