The basic principles of DHAO have been presented and demonstrated in a recent paper [Opt. Lett. 36, 2710-2712(2011)]. In this paper, the application of DHAO in biological imaging is investigated.

An adaptive optics (AO) ocular imaging system is proposed that is based on the principles of digital holography and dispenses with the wavefront sensor and wavefront modulator of conventional AO systems, thus reducing the optomechanical complexity and cost while increasing speed and resolution. Numerical simulations and proofof- principle experiments are presented that demonstrate the feasibility.

A new adaptive optics retinal imaging system is presented that is based on the principles of digital holography and dispenses with the wavefront sensor and wavefront corrective element of the conventional adaptive optics system.
